St. Louis Home Care & Medical Staffing Agency Celebrates Thirty-four (34) Years in Business

StaffLink, a St. Louis based home care and medical staffing firm celebrated a 34 year business anniversary on March 7^th!

Gretchen Curry is the founder and President of StaffLink.  She has a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and an undergraduate major in Speech Pathology. She procured management experience with a national temporary nursing and home health company located in St. Louis before starting her company.

Gretchen says she was very thrilled when she interviewed for the job as Branch Manager with the national firm in 1984.  She was excited to learn about the services and support that their clients received in their homes with  “aging in place” or with providing support during their end of life journey.

As a teenager she had two dear relatives pass in their home, a paternal grandmother and a treasured aunt. Although there was family caregivers and support, she did not recall there being much professional in-home support available. She wondered if the family members had been overwhelmed. She realizes from her experience as a teenager that professional home care is about supporting the client and the family caregivers.

After interviewing with the national firm, she was made an offer. She was excited and believed immediately in the mission of the private duty and home health care industry and was certain she had found her passion.  This was the perfect avenue for her to utilize her public health degree and training!

She remained employed with the above provider for two years, she was promoted to Regional Director of both St. Louis and Belleville offices while employed with them. She was grateful for everything she learned from the national firm.

After, leaving the national firm, she honored her 12-month non-compete agreement and waited to start StaffLink 13 months later. Integrity is a core value of Gretchen’s. She believes her integrity was honored, and the company experienced immediate success and growth after opening!

She took the lessons she learned from the national firm and made improvements in the areas that she believed would benefit StaffLink and their clients.

Gretchen founded StaffLink in 1987.  StaffLink gained a reputation for providing quality service.   Happy clients and families shared their positive experience with others. A measurable demonstration of the success of our company, is it’s longevity and stability.  In our industry, firms that deliver poor service, just don’t stay in business for 34 years!

Our company was originally named Supplemental Medical Services, Inc.  In June 2000 the company began operating under the name of StaffLink. Over the last 34 plus years, we have earned a reputation as an industry leader.  StaffLink is a company that home care and medical staffing competitors work to emulate. Others in the industry frequently seek her out for advice and direction. She has a reputation in the region for a willingness to share her experience and knowledge with others generously.

In the last five years, Gretchen had a role reversal and was a family caregiver for her parents.  Her mother and her father needed private duty nursing care and StaffLink caregivers provided this care. She knows what it is like to have strangers in your home and to depend on others to assist in meeting your family’s caregiving needs.

The past twelve months have been challenging.  This last year, 2020, required us to rethink and change how we had previously conducted aspects of our business.  We shifted and did so quickly.  Several areas of our business have been transformed. As our journey continues, we celebrate not only our growth but our willingness to “shift” when shifting is required.  After 34 plus years in the business we are both thrilled and grateful for moments of new inspiration, that cause us to make changes and improvements that benefit our 2021 clients directly.

We are thankful for the loyalty and support that our home care staff, health care professionals, administrative staff, referral sources and past and current clients have given us over these 34 years.  It is because of the loyalty and support of these individuals that we are still standing after 34 years!
